central city bachelor pad

PROJECT TYPE Residential LOCATION Auckland Central

A sanctuary for a busy guy who travelled extensively off shore for his work, the brief — “a very cool space to come home to and a place to congregate with my mates”, this central city space was completely gutted and reconfigured to make the layout more functional with a larger kitchen and storage with a central island bench dining — set higher to make the most of the view to the park.

A defined entrance was planned to create a sense of arrival without looking directly into the apartment living area from the front door, leading into the north facing living area bathed in natural light. Textures, furnishings and artwork along with an emphasis of indirect lighting were used to create mood and accents throughout the apartment, all controlled with movement sensors to avoid having to find light switches… “a touch of cool”

As with most inner city apartments storage is crucial for functionality, in this apartment additional storage was created and used as a barrier rather than walls for separation, maximising all the small places to make it ‘work’ and fit with the varied and much-travelled lifestyle of the owner.
